Why Are Dental Bridges Essential?

Dental bridges replace missing teeth with fixed, durable restorations that restore chewing, speech, and bite alignment. By filling gaps they prevent neighbouring teeth from drifting, reduce the risk of excessive wear, and maintain facial support, avoiding complex future treatments such as implants or orthodontics and bone loss if untreated over time.

What Is a Dental Bridge and How Does It Work?

A Dental bridge is a fixed prosthesis that spans the gap created by one or more missing teeth. It attaches artificial teeth (pontics) to adjacent prepared natural teeth or to implants. The supporting teeth are shaped to receive crowns, and the bridge restores chewing function, stabilises neighbouring teeth, and preserves proper bite.

Bridges are selected based on the number of missing teeth, location in the mouth, and the condition of adjacent teeth. Proper planning from impressions or digital scans and precise lab fabrication ensure a secure fit and long-term function.

Bridges help with:

  • Restoring stable chewing function after tooth loss
  • Maintaining proper bite forces across neighbouring teeth
  • Preventing opposing teeth from over-erupting into empty spaces
  • Supporting jaw alignment by keeping remaining teeth in position

Let me share my experience on implants in clove dental..... As I visited clinic for complaints in RCT treatments which was done in other clinic..... So dr chaithanya AVS resident doctor, welcomed me and checked my RCT status.examined my infected teeth and explained the status that teeth is not in condition for re RCT treatment ...because of the infection and fracture is been noticed on X RAY.....So she suggested to go for extraction, and go for implants.....but in my mind I have no idea about going for implants.i scared for implants treatment. Because it's a procedure of drilling... Dr chaithanya told that after extracting the tooth the other teeth nearby gets drifted to the vacant place where the teeth is extracted...so that leaves a lot of gap....it's recommended to go for implants...... She promised me that implants are safe and painless.and it's highly recommended.... After her deep explanation and recommendation I accepted to go for implants. Dr chaithanya AVS resident doctor told that your surgeon Dr srikanth verma oral and facial surgeon will treat you well on implants.... And I spoke to this surgeon srikanth verma,he told that implants is a easy painless surgery.... Ok then I accepted his assuarance. Then on my appointment day I reached in time, and Dr chaithanya and surgeon srikanth verma welcomed....and started the treatment.... To be honest to say the extraction of tooth and implant took just 20 to 25 min... it was a quick procedure...but Dr was not in a hurry to do. Surgeon srikanth verma patiently implanted the tooth without feeling any pain.....I didn't feel pain in any corner.....it was a totally painless surgery. But note that during implants just we feel vibration but no pain.....so any one who is looking for implants,it is recommended to be done in clove dental btm layout... Thanks to Dr chaithanya mam and facial and oral surgeon Dr srikanth verma. Can give 5 stars for clove dental and for both the doctors also....

Common Myths About Dental Bridges

Bridges damage healthy teeth
Fact: Modern bridge preparation is conservative and aims to preserve maximum tooth structure. When supporting teeth are healthy and properly restored, a bridge helps distribute bite forces evenly and can function safely for many years.
Bridges don’t last long
Fact: Well-made bridges can last 7–15 years or more with good oral hygiene and stable supporting teeth. Regular check-ups and timely maintenance significantly improve their lifespan.
Bridges look artificial
Fact: Today’s PFM and zirconia bridges are designed to closely match the form and colour of natural teeth. With digital scanning and high-precision fabrication, they offer excellent functional and visual continuity.
