Why Are Dental Bridges Essential?

Dental bridges replace missing teeth with fixed, durable restorations that restore chewing, speech, and bite alignment. By filling gaps they prevent neighbouring teeth from drifting, reduce the risk of excessive wear, and maintain facial support, avoiding complex future treatments such as implants or orthodontics and bone loss if untreated over time.

What Is a Dental Bridge and How Does It Work?

A Dental bridge is a fixed prosthesis that spans the gap created by one or more missing teeth. It attaches artificial teeth (pontics) to adjacent prepared natural teeth or to implants. The supporting teeth are shaped to receive crowns, and the bridge restores chewing function, stabilises neighbouring teeth, and preserves proper bite.

Bridges are selected based on the number of missing teeth, location in the mouth, and the condition of adjacent teeth. Proper planning from impressions or digital scans and precise lab fabrication ensure a secure fit and long-term function.

Bridges help with:

  • Restoring stable chewing function after tooth loss
  • Maintaining proper bite forces across neighbouring teeth
  • Preventing opposing teeth from over-erupting into empty spaces
  • Supporting jaw alignment by keeping remaining teeth in position

I had a half broken tooth and had come to Clove for extraction and implant. Dr Shivani took great care to diagnose and then explain the step by step procedure as well as options at each stage for the whole process. My implant was done by Dr Arvind and it was done seamlessly. Post implant, after 3-4 weeks, Dr Akanksha evaluated the dental health, took proper measurements for crown and also gave certain vitamins to strengthen the gums before crowning process. The final step was the putting the crown and it fit in perfectly. I wasnt able to figure in mirror which was the crown and which were my teeth. All done very well. Highly recommend. Thanks team at Clove

Common Myths About Dental Bridges

Bridges damage healthy teeth
Fact: Modern bridge preparation is conservative and aims to preserve maximum tooth structure. When supporting teeth are healthy and properly restored, a bridge helps distribute bite forces evenly and can function safely for many years.
Bridges don’t last long
Fact: Well-made bridges can last 7–15 years or more with good oral hygiene and stable supporting teeth. Regular check-ups and timely maintenance significantly improve their lifespan.
Bridges look artificial
Fact: Today’s PFM and zirconia bridges are designed to closely match the form and colour of natural teeth. With digital scanning and high-precision fabrication, they offer excellent functional and visual continuity.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Bridges in India

How much does a dental bridge cost per tooth?
Costs typically range ₹5,000–₹18,000 per tooth depending on material and complexity. At Clove, metal bridges start around ₹6,580, PFM at ₹8,780, and zirconia at ₹12,780 per tooth. Final estimates depend on case specifics.
Is a bridge better than an implant?
Bridges are quicker and less invasive; implants better preserve bone. Choice depends on bone quality, adjacent teeth condition, and long-term goals—your dentist will recommend the suitable option.
How long does a bridge last?
With good oral hygiene and regular checks, bridges last 7–15 years or longer. Longevity depends on abutment tooth health, material, and maintenance.
Will getting a bridge hurt?
Preparation is usually performed under local anaesthesia. Patients may feel mild sensitivity after, which generally resolves in a few days.
What preparations might be needed before a bridge?
Possible preparatory steps include root canal, periodontal therapy, extractions, or crown lengthening to ensure stable abutment teeth and a proper fit.
